The Importance of Sociology
Society is changing rapidly that sociology has become the study of social change. Social change happen all the time, it’s controversial and premeditated, but often unplanned and these changes matter more to others. Throughout, Sociology, you learn about the society, culture, various institutions like politics and religion.
Humans are the most complex creatures on the planet. Everyone thinks in a whole other way than the other animals that inhabit the world with us which makes our interactions that much more interesting from a scientific point of view. Like some other animals, we group together to form societies of all different sizes in additional to the individual. However, we do this on a much more complicated scale other than any other creature. To use applied sociology for our individual problems we must first look at the different ways in which societies are arranged in the world. So in other words, South American rain forest is different than Yanomamo that has land boundaries. Members of a society must come in contact with one another. If the countries don’t come in contact with each other they can’t be on the same society.
Culture in the sociological field is analyzed as the ways of thinking and describing, the ways of acting, and the material objects that together shape a people’s way of life. To a member of a society means sharing a culture. Membership in a society necessarily involves sharing a way of life, engaging in similar patterns of thought and behavior, such as celebrating Thanksgiving. Culture is also learned by human beings teat are not born with cultural patterns encoded into their DNA. No one is borne a Christian or a teacher, all such patterns of behavior have to be learned, and the more complex the society one lives in, the longer it takes to learn the necessary skills needed for competent social participation. Such learning takes place, informally with a relative or a formal setting such as school, it is vital for individuals to be able to become true members of society. Material culture also comprises all the hardware of social life, that is. All the material and physical products of society: IPod, computers and phones. I know without these materials it would be really hard to communicate. I am really glad that technology has changed so much over the years. It would be really hard to talk to people or learn new information without these things.
Sociology of Religion is the study of the beliefs, practices and organizational forms of religion using the tools and methods of the discipline of sociology. Sociologists of religion every aspect of religion from what is believed to how persons act while in worship and while living out the stated conviction. Global religious pluralism and conflict, the influence of religion on racial, gender and sexuality issues and the effect of the media that has on religious practices are all topics of interest in current sociology of religion research. Social scientists who study religion today perform a vital function in helping journalists and the general public make sense of the rise of religious themes and influences in television, political conflicts, and personal issue’s such as abortions. The discipline of sociology of religion has much to teach about how religion functions for the individual and in society.
